Ask questions.
Don’t be hard on yourself! Jiu-Jitsu is a journey, not a destination, always remember why you started Jiu-Jitsu in the first place.

In our Little Champs Programs we focus on the strong foundations of Jiu-Jitsu and self defense. We also add in fun games, fitness and agility training! This class also involves our Character Development & Bully Defense Program. We believe in building up our younger students to be good citizens of the world, learning to develop strong self confidence, respect for others, and the importance of trying your best in life!
At NSBJJ we believe that our Jiu-Jitsu Kids should be learning in a fun environment, with no pressure. This age is an important development stage in a child’s life, and if pushed and pressured too early they will not want to continue with their training or sport, as it will no longer be fun for them. We want to help kids learn respect and focus, but also have fun and be kids!
Structure & Discipline
Kids should be kids, right? Yes! Of course! At NSBJJ we have lots of fun with the kids, however we also have rules, boundaries and structure. Rules and structure help kids to learn responsibility, RESPECT, and help kids grow into well adjusted responsible adults. Just as important as rules and structure are CONSEQUENCES and following through. At NSBJJ we believe in following through with consequences if rules are broken. We are also a team with the Parents, so not only should rules be enforced at the Academy, but also at home, and we believe in working with families to give rewards when our NSBJJ Kids are doing well, and consequences when rules are not followed. Our Kids Programs offer Character Building Curriculum as well as REWARDS for doing whats right!
This program is specifically designed for our older students. These classes include lots of physical exercise, Jiu-Jitsu specific warm ups and agility training. At NSBJJ we feel that as kids get older it is more important for them to be fit, active and have proper body awareness to better adapt to their growing bodies and to establish an active lifestyle that will stay with them into adulthood. In the Jr. Jiu-Jitsu Program we also work with the kids on self-discipline, focus and how to properly deal with Peer Pressure. It can be a tough time for kids entering Middle School and getting prepared for High School. At NSBJJ we practice and teach Self-Defense first, but it is just as important to teach "Verbal Jiu-Jitsu" (Verbal Assertiveness) to help stop Bullying and Peer Pressure by stopping the threat before it gets physical. These techniques also help tremendously with Self-Confidence.
Jiu-Jitsu can help your child with CONFIDENCE! - Jiu-Jitsu focuses on individual achievement, where all kids are included, no one is "benched" or forced to "sit out" like traditional competitive sports.
Jiu-Jitsu helps kids with GOALS - Kids learn to work hard and try their best to achieve their next belt or belt stripe, at NSBJJ our belt grading is based on individual achievement and behavior in and out of the Academy. We also follow guidelines for minimum requirements set by the IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation).
Jiu-Jitsu teaches kids practical and proven SELF-DEFENSE! - Jiu-Jitsu or "Gentle Way" is a traditional Self-Defense art with origins dating all the way back to Japan where it was used in hand to hand combat by the Samurai! How cool is that? We teach kids how to use leverage and technique to control an attacker or Bully, without needing to hurt another child (Bully) however, kids are taught to use excessive force only if threatened with real physical harm.
At NSBJJ we teach kids BULLY DEFENSE! - We believe giving kids the confidence to stand up verbally (what we call verbal Jiu-Jitsu) can usually deter a possible bullying situation. Using self-confidence, direct eye contact and a firm voice first and foremost usually lets the Bully know your kid isn't going to accept being bullied! However there will be situations where a Bully may physically attack your child, and don't worry! They will be ready to defend themselves when this does happen!
FITNESS! - We do lots of age appropriate fun games with the kids, and lots of exercise! Jiu-Jitsu is a very physical Martial Art, so we make sure kids learn proper movements and body control using Jiu-Jitsu specific warm ups and exercises.
FRIENDS! - We pride ourselves at NSBJJ in having a friendly and welcoming environment. We reward and praise kids for helping out each other and helping out the younger and newer kids. There is no competition allowed with one another because we are all one team and here to make each other better!
FUN! - Lets face it Mom and Dad, if your kid isn't having fun, they aren't going to want to come to Jiu-Jitsu. Although it can't all be fun and games and they will need to focus and learn the moves, we do it in a fun way, with no pressure. We understand kids do not all learn the same, and we know how to let kids work at their own pace, but always making sure they are trying their best and most importantly having fun and being kids!
